SQE1 format: FLK1 and FLK2
How the SQE1 functioning legal knowledge assessments are structured.
1 min read · Last updated 10 Oct 2026
SQE1 consists of two assessments, FLK1 and FLK2, each made up of single-best-answer questions (five options, one best answer) taken in two sessions with a break between them.
The number of questions and the session timings depend on the sitting. Our mock exams use the format set for the sitting you choose, so a January 2027 mock follows the rules for that sitting. You can see the exact format on the Exam formats page and when you start a mock.
Important
- The official format is set by the SRA and can change. Always check the SRA's published information for your sitting.
- Our mocks are practice only. A mock score is a practice result, not an official SQE mark, and it does not predict whether you would pass.
